Frequently Asked Questions…

What is Body Sugaring? The safest and most effective method of hair removal using sugar! We apply the sugar paste to your skin in the opposite direction of the hair growth and remove it following the direction of growth for gentlest extraction and best results. Our technique eliminates hair breakage, unnecessary discomfort, and ingrown hairs while exfoliating dry skin cells. The AP technique and theory is proven to achieve permanent hair reduction through consistent treatments!

How long does my hair need to be before I come in? I ask that you have at least 7-10 days of hair growth before your first Brazilian treatment, 4-7 days hair growth for underarms, and 10-14 days hair growth for legs, eyebrows, and facial hair.

How long will the appointment take for my first Brazilian? The service on average takes about 30-45 minutes for your first Brazilian depending on you, your skin, and hair. If you are running more than 10 minutes late for your first appointment, I will have to reschedule you to ensure the proper amount of time for the service.

How long will my first Brazilian last? Most clients are smooth for 2-3 weeks after their first Brazilian. I recommend re-booking 3-6 weeks after your first appointment. This allows the hair to be removed during the regrowth cycle, therefore permanently reducing as much hair as possible.

What should I do after my appointment? Your skin may be sensitive so for the next 24 hours you should plan to avoid tight clothes, exfoliating, any skin care products not recommended by your sugarer, working out, hot tubs, pools, baths, and any activity that may cause sweating or friction on the area that was sugared. After the 24 hour period it is very important to keep the skin hydrated, and exfoliated with products recommended. Exfoliation should be performed 2 to 3 times a week in between sugaring appointments.

Can sugaring cause hair loss and thinning?
With consistency you will see less and less hair returning, along with a finer texture. If your goal is to achieve less hair, it is recommended to keep regular appointments 3 to 6 weeks apart.

What’s the difference between wax and sugar? The sugar paste used is all natural and doesn’t contain any chemicals or resins like wax so it is safe for sensitive skin. The sugar paste only gently removes dead skin whereas wax can remove healthy skin. The sugar paste is warm verse hot so there’s no risk of burning! Lastly, the sugar is applied in the opposite direction of hair growth then pulled off in the same direction so this insures the removal on the root & bulb and minimizes breakage, ingrown hairs, and pain!

What should I do before my appointment? Keeping your skin exfoliated and hydrated is very important. However, do not exfoliate or use lotion/creams the day before. Make sure to grow your hair out to the proper length and avoid sun-tanning for 24 hours prior to a treatment.

Can I shave between appointments? It’s not recommended because you will have to wait longer before you can come in for your next appointment. This will cause your next appointment to be more painful and delay the permanent hair loss process.

What is the sugar paste made of? Manufactured in Clarence, NY Alexandria sugar paste is simply made from sugar, water, lemon juice, and gum acacia.

Does sugaring cause ingrown hairs? No. Ingrown hairs are often caused by lack of exfoliation, improper skin care, and hair growing over the mouth of the follicle. As a trained/educated Alexandria practitioner informing my clients with proper pre and post extraction care to ensure the best results of the treated area is very important to me.

Can I get sugared if I’m pregnant? Since the sugar is all natural, there are no risks to pregnant women. I recommend consulting your doctor before scheduling, seeing that every pregnancy is different.

Do you need to be 18 to schedule a Brazilian sugaring? With a parent or guardian present to sign your initial paperwork/consent form, you are able to have a Brazilian hair removal treatment as a minor. Please let me know prior to booking your appointment that you are not 18 years of age. If you are under 18 and do not have a parent present for consent, I will reschedule your appointment.

Can I get sugaring done on my bikini/Brazilian area during my monthly cycle? Yes! However, you may be more sensitive during the service. I understand some women prefer not to come in during this time and I will work with you to reschedule your appointment. Your comfort is my main concern!

Is there anyone who can’t be sugared? Unfortunately sugaring cannot be performed on anyone who has used Accutane in the last year, and cannot be performed on any areas that you have used topical retin-a or retinol on in the last 3 weeks. You should also wait 2 to 4 weeks if you’ve had any professional exfoliating treatments such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion on the area you want sugared.

Is sugaring painful? It can be painful unfortunately, but it is gentler on the skin in comparison to wax or laser hair removal. It becomes less painful overtime especially when you schedule your appointments within 6 weeks of your last service. Taking an ibuprofen 20 minutes prior to your service will help

I was sugared today and I am seeing tiny red bumps on my skin. Is this normal? Tiny red spots may appear on the skin for a few hours. Please do not worry, it is a natural reaction when hair is removed right from the root. These spots will disappear quickly..
